The
pleasant centre of Bocca di Magra, which has
long prospered on fishing, is set a short
distance from Ameglia,. The best entry to
Bocca is from Montemarcello, its scenic piazza a
kaleidoscope of polychrome buildings, trees,
fountain and narrow shady vaults – the perfect
movie location. You are entering the easternmost
tip of Liguria, a stone’s throw from La Spezia,
as well as one of the two Fluvial Parks of the
region, green oasis fit for excursions,
birdwatching and several other activities in
close contact with nature, flora and fauna.
Nowadays
Bocca di Magra is an important tourist
and port centre, endowed with smart stabilimenti
balneari and quality accommodation facilities to
enjoy 4 seasons a year. The area boasts first
class archaeological and historical repute,
witnessed by the Roman ruins found in Luni and
in the Apuan Alps. The district was cited by
Dante Alighieri in the Divina Commedia when he
described the feudal fights of the Malaspina
household in the verses “Tragge Marte vapor di
Val di Magra, ch’è di torbidi nuvoli involuto”…
More recently, numberless literates and
intellectuals chose the area as the buen retiro
of 20th century art and culture: poets Eugenio
Montale, Cesare Pavese and Vittorio Sereni, and
French writer Marguerite Duras
Bocca di Magra is the ideal destination for a
holiday rich in sea, culture, nature, sports,
relaxation and warm hospitality.
Active vacations
(sailing, climbing, golf…) meet the pleasures of
enogastronomy, an array of temptations ranging
from testaroli (diamond-shaped thin crêpes) to
panigacci (piadina-like pasta crêpes), wine and
– last but not least – fish. Excursions and
emotions compose a medley of memories depicting
uncontaminated habitats, art masterpieces and
gourmet breaks.
